John's Safe Space

The Counseling Department is excited to announce the grand opening of our new John's Safe Place!  John's Safe Place was generously donated to our school by Rick and Beth Haney of the JCH Foundation (www.thejchfoundation.com).   In loving memory of John Charles Haney, the JCH Foundation's mission is to raise mental health awareness and support individuals.   The JCH Foundation is an organization that aims to help fight the stigma of mental illness.   They use donations to create 'John's Safe Place' rooms in Northeast Ohio schools and to  provide seminars about mental health awareness as well as scholarship awards.  Our John's Safe Place room is available in the counseling office for our students to use when they need a quiet break.  The foundation furnished our room with a beautiful fish tank, low lighting, and comfy seating.  Students struggling with anxiety or stressful situations will be permitted to use the room to decompress and then either follow up with a counselor or return to class if they are ready.  School staff are welcome to encourage struggling students to visit the safe place room.  We are so thankful to have this new space to help support our students!
